Synthwave
Flat-shaded synthwave illustration, neon color blocking, dusk gradient sky, black silhouettes.

When to pick it
Synthwave renders a scene as a flat-shaded illustration with neon color blocking, a dusk gradient sky and black silhouettes. Think of a sun sinking into magenta and orange bands, palm trees cut out against the light, and a building outlined in glowing pinks and cyans. Everything is reduced to shapes and gradients, with very little surface detail. It brings an unmistakable 1980s retro-future mood to architecture.
When to use it
- nightlife, music venues and entertainment complexes
- coastal and resort projects with palm-lined settings
- gaming, tech and creative office branding
- event posters, album-style covers and social campaigns
- concept images for speculative or retro-futurist projects
It works best as a single standout image rather than a full presentation set, and it pairs well with a short caption or event date set in a matching neon type.
What it does to materials and light
Synthwave replaces materials with flat color blocks. Facades become solid purples and blues, glass turns into bright neon strips, and foreground elements like trees and people become black silhouettes. Light comes from the horizon: a strong gradient sky backlights everything, and edges catch neon rim highlights. There is little texture, so the composition and the skyline carry the image. Reflections on wet ground or water, when present, repeat the sky colors and double the glow.
Tips for better results
- Strong silhouettes and recognizable rooflines are essential.
- Low camera angles with the building against the sky give the classic look.
- Include palm trees, cars or a horizon line in the prompt for the full mood.
- Keep facades simple; detailed elevations flatten into shapes anyway.
- Use evening or dusk wording, which matches the style's built-in sky.
Synthwave is offered in 3D Model to Render, Text to Render and Edit Canvas. For a softer glow, see Dreamy Neon Pastel.

- Elevation to RenderTurn a 2D elevation drawing into a photorealistic facade render, and try materials, context and light before you present.

- 3D Model to RenderTurn a view of your 3D model from SketchUp, Rhino, Revit or Blender into a photorealistic render, ready for client review.
