SketchUp to AI concept render for facades and interiors by jjuham
jjuham, who teaches Enscape and rendering tips, turns simple SketchUp massing and a line-only hotel interior into concept renders in Rendair.
jjuham runs a Korean channel with tips on Enscape and other rendering tools. In this short review he tests Rendair as a quick way to explore concepts before committing to a full render. He uses two simple SketchUp inputs: a building massing with no facade decided yet, and an empty hotel interior drawn only in lines. If you already render in Enscape or D5 and want a faster step at the concept stage, this video shows where it fits.
What you'll see
- Logging in and starting a new render from an image.
- 3D Model to Render on a SketchUp export of a building mass. He leaves the color and strength settings at their defaults if you're unsure about them.
- Building the prompt with the keyword picker instead of writing it from scratch. He chooses views such as aerial, front elevation and street level, a design style named after a well-known studio, and materials like a glass curtain wall on a sunny day.
- Comparing facade concepts side by side as a quick A/B test.
- 3D Model to Render on a line-only SketchUp view of an empty hotel interior, using keywords to describe the space.
- Adding reference images, such as ones saved from Pinterest, to steer the look.
Takeaways
- He found results arrived in about one to two minutes, much faster than setting up a concept render in Enscape, with higher quality than he would expect at that stage.
- His suggested process is to generate AI concept images first, carry the direction you like back into the model, then do the final render in your usual tool. He notes that rendering software is also starting to add AI image generation.
- Clean lines in the SketchUp export help the result.
- The keyword picker helps if you aren't confident writing English prompts.
- His main criticism was that he couldn't try it before paying, since there were no trial credits at the time he recorded.
Try it yourself
Export a view of your massing or an empty interior from SketchUp, run it through 3D Model to Render, and use the keyword picker to compare a few facade or material directions.
