Prompt

The words that tell an AI model what to make: the building, the materials, the light, the mood. A good prompt is short and specific; the image it is paired with carries the rest.

In AI rendering the prompt is one input among several. When you start from a sketch, plan or model view, the image already carries the geometry, viewpoint and composition. The prompt adds what the drawing cannot: materials, surroundings, season, time of day, atmosphere and the people using the space. That is why architectural prompts can be much shorter than the long prompts seen in general AI image communities. With no reference image, as in text to image, the prompt carries everything and needs more detail.

Getting it right

  • Lead with the main subject and material: "three-story timber housing block, larch cladding".
  • Add light and context next: "overcast morning, wet street, mature plane trees".
  • Use architectural terms you would use with a colleague; models generally recognize common names for materials and building types.
  • Change one thing at a time between runs so you know what made the difference.
  • Leave style to the style setting and exclusions to a negative prompt, where a tool offers one.

In Rendair

Most tools take a short prompt alongside an image, such as Sketch to Render. Text to Render works from words alone, for early mood images when there is no drawing yet. A style preset handles the look, so the prompt can focus on content. See AI rendering for the wider process.
