Visualization
The craft of showing a design before it exists: renders, animations, walkthroughs and the boards they go on. Architectural visualization, often shortened to archviz, is a profession of its own.
Visualization in architecture covers any way of making an unbuilt design visible: hand perspectives and watercolors, physical models, computer renders, animations, walkthroughs and VR. Its purpose changes with the audience. For the design team it is a way to test ideas; for clients and planners it explains a proposal; for developers it sells. Architectural visualization as a profession, often called archviz, grew from this need and now includes dedicated studios and artists.
How it shows up in a project
- Early on, visualization is fast and loose: sketches, massing views and quick renders that are meant to be replaced.
- Later images become fewer and more considered, chosen for the views that best explain the design.
- The format follows the audience. A planning committee needs accurate context views; a sales brochure needs atmosphere and people.
- Presentation boards and decks are part of the craft, since how images are sequenced affects how a design is understood.
- Honesty matters. Visualization that hides context or exaggerates light sets expectations the building cannot meet.
In Rendair
Rendair covers several parts of the visualization workflow in one place: generating images from sketches or models with tools such as Text to Render and Sketch to Render, editing them, upscaling, making short videos with Image to Video, and laying the results out on boards for presentation.
